Where Worship
Welcomes
We Are
undergoing a change in the
Hurlbut Church family with the transition of pastor/Hurlbut family member
Ted Anderson to simply Hurlbut family member. We're sad to see Ted go; happy
to welcome Rev. Paul Womack as our new pastor, happy for the Genessee Valley
district where Ted will be working, and blessed that God is at work in all
of this.
HERE'S
a song that Hurlbut member Bill Ward wrote in honor of the Anderson's
19 years of faithful service in Chautauqua:
REMEMBER HOME
We love you, Ted, Mary, Jenny, Tim, and
Matt.
Paul, your song's coming soon...

Welcome!
|
Welcome
to the Hurlbut Memorial Community Church! We are an
United Methodist Church, with an
ecumenical outlook serving God in the Chautauqua community with unique
ministries and opportunities.
We are located on the grounds of the
Chautauqua Institution (a summer
season cultural center for learning and enrichment) on Chautauqua Lake in
western New York. The church was founded to provide an ongoing worship
center following the Chautauqua season.
Hurlbut welcomes everyone to this "place of God" and reaches out
in service and support to God's children in our neighborhood and extended
community. Please join us!

Mission Statement
|
"To
share Christ with the community and the world by being a year-round center
for Christian worship, education, fellowship and service."

Focus
|
Hurlbut
Church has just completed a two year celebration Honoring the Past
and Celebrating the Future. We honor 125 years of being the
Church in this place and 75 years of ministry through this building. Our
current theme for this celebration is: Faithfully Serving!
To guide our ministries this year, Hurlbut Church has chosen the theme
Faithfully Gathering. We are attempting to be faithful in gathering and
prayer in all aspects of our program and ministries.

When We Worship
|
The
local congregation of about 130 meets on Sundays September through June for
Church School at 9:30 a.m. and worship at 10:45 a.m. and at 5:30 Wednesday s
for Midweek Vespers. During July and August, we meet at for communion at
8:30 am Sundays, and we share in the Chautauqua programs and worship at the
Chautauqua Amphitheater. Hurlbut is a "church home away from
home" for many seasonal Chautauquans and visitors.
|
|
How We Serve in Summer
|
We
serve our community by being a summer home for Chautauqua's Hebrew
Congregation and various Institution Summer School classes.
Church leaders serve the Department of Religion as Youth leaders and take
responsibilities at various denominational houses on the grounds. Our
Pastor, Ted Anderson, gave the tour of Palestine Park this summer.
We serve weekday lunches and a Thursday evening dinner to the Chautauqua
community during the summer season. In 2004, 130 volunteers served over
6000 meals. Proceeds support the mission and ministries of Hurlbut Church.
